Rock band originally known as Wayne & the Detricks from the southwestern Baltimore neighborhood of Pigtown. By 1967 the group became known as The Rubber Band, named for its ‘flexibility’ of musical styles. Members included Lester Mills (lead vocals), Wayne Carlisle (guitar), Lloyd Martinez (guitar), John Norton, (bass), and John Mueller (drums). By the early ‘70s the group had evolved to consist of mainstays Mills and Carlisle, with Chuck Ross (guitar ex-Moon Raiders, Time Watchers), Wayne Glover (bass), and Doug Creamer (drums ex-Moon Raiders).
The group performed at Sherry’s Inn (Locust Point), Half-Way House, Cross and Carroll Bar, Rhapsody, the Hippopotamus… For a time, they played regularly at the Keystone Inn (Dundalk) and shared the stage with their house band Penelope. Early ‘70s playlist included covers of Beatles, Clapton, Jethro Tull, Uriah Heep, Bowie, Mountain, along with various Top-40 hits.
Mueller was later in ‘70s band Proxy… Ross went on to join Arch Angel… Creamer later with the Blue Meanies…
