Punk band. Members included David Rhodes (vocals –Fear of God, Reptile House…), Lou Panlilio (guitar -21 Deaf Men…), Mike Malley (guitar –Reptile House), John Chriest (bass –Lungfish…), Matt Arbach (guitar, vocals ex-Per Capita), Andy Lott (drums –Jonestown Reunion)…

Rise played Oddfellows Hall, The Polish Union, Hour Haus, Marble Bar, The New Loft, and various other venues…

Their song “God Bless the Creeps” was included on 1989 “Merkin Seedy Sampler” album (Merkin 305).

In describing the sound of Rise, Lou remarked “This one’s tough… All I can say is that we played half of a set of aggressive post-hardcore punk and half free-flowing epics that were really skeletons of songs that each member fleshed out in unique ways each time. Sometimes the latter worked so well it felt transcendent, other times it was indulgent crap. Song titles included “Cavalcade of Dismay,” “Shed My Skin,” “The Awakening,” and “Ghost Dance.” Lyrics were very gritty but literate. We had a song called “Tears Make Rust” about the Tin Man and his “god damned metal head.” It had a dynamic beginning, building tempo, and a pumping bass line. We even had a reggae jam that Dave turned into an anarchist anthem.”
