Bill Holland and his Rent’s Due Band played covers and originals in D.C. and Baltimore area clubs. Rent’s Due II line-up in 1974 featured Holland (piano, vocals ex-Nighthawks), Gerry Mule (guitar ex-Emmylou Harris band, Mike Auldridge sessions), Mac Cridlin (bass), Scotty Taylor (drums), and Kurt McGetrick (brass). Kurt, a veteran musician who had played with Maynard Ferguson, James Brown, and others was part-time with the band when he was available. Cridlin was later replaced with Jan Zukowski who split time between Rent’s Due and the Nighthawks. He was later replaced with bassist Elliott Jagoda (ex-D.C. Dog).
The group released an LP in 1975 “If It Ain’t One Thing…” (Adelphi 4104). They were seen at the Chancery, Far Inn, Desperado’s, Psychedelly, No Fish Today, U of MD Coffee House…
In 1976 they opened for Kenny Rankin at the Cellar Door in D.C. The group had completely changed by that time and featured Holland with John Jennings (guitar), Mike Roll (sax), Gary Starr (bass), and Rick Anderson (drums ex-Islanders). Throughout the ‘70s into the ‘80s members and session musicians also included John Jennings (guitar), Keith Grimes (guitar ex-Aux), Pete Kennedy (guitar), Carl Holzapfel (drums), Larry Strother (sax), Ronnie Newmyer (bass), Wade Matthews (bass)… (Matthews also played for Tim Eyermann’s East Coast Express).
