R&B band and vocalists from the Edmondson Village area booked by A&D (Armstrong & Donaldson) Agency from 1972-75. They performed for local dances, Elk’s Club lounges, school proms, and night clubs.

The Potentials at Dundalk High School – October 9, 1975

The band was led by Ricardo ‘Froggy’ Griffin (bass guitarist and arranger), with left-handed lead guitarist Tony Bellamy, Craig Coleman (rhythm guitar), and Daryl Griffin (drums). The vocalists included Kandy White, Ronnie Lewis, and Michael King (Evelyn ‘Champagne’ King’s step-brother). This was the classic lineup of the group. Horn section members included Prince Jordan, and Gerald Wise. Additional members included Sam Johnson, Bo Green (keyboards –MFD & Co.), vocalist Amory Strange, and soundman ‘Eel.’

The Potentials earned a deal with Stang Records but as it turned out they never recorded.

A lineup circa 1976-77 featured vocalists Michael and Kandy, with Reginald Richardson (bass vocalist), along with Larry Dennis (lead guitar), Robert Wilson (guitar), Bill Harris (bass), Alvin Campbell (keyboards), Robert Dett (drums), Warren Coleman (percussion), and Mike Noel (flute).

Ricardo also did some musical arrangements for local group First Class. In the ‘00s he continued his career a music teacher and composer. Most of the group members continued to together to perform on occasion. Daryl Griffin went on to join Gaye Street One… Dennis later with Pendtones, Wild Rice… Wilson and Noel later with Maximum Strength… Dett and Wilson later with Rollex…
