Since the 1960s Polite has established a reputation as one of Baltimore’s top jazz / R&B drummers. He was a member of the Bill Byrd Trio (’64-69). In the mid-‘70s he teamed with sax great Mickey Fields and organist Cornell Muldrow as a house band on weekends at the Sportsmen’s Lounge. The group also performed at the Lucky Number Club.

In the ‘00s Polite could be seen at the Kiss Cafe with the Baltimore Jazz Trio. In September ‘02 he performed a tribute to Mickey Fields at the Arch Social Club along with Andy Ennis (sax), Arnold Sterling (sax), Bill Byrd (keyboards), and Joe Jose (drums). His recordings include the 2001 CD “Stern Hall Lessons.”
