Classic rock and oldies with an edge was the forte of this energetic group formed in 1998 by ex-Striking Distance guitarist/vocalist Tim Amann, with Joe Bontz (guitar, vocals), Larry Thompson (bass ex-Alamo Band), and Joe Jones (drums).
Jones and Thompson loved to rock out on all the songs including several country songs that were in the mix. Pet Rock appeared at many east side clubs including Jack’s in Dundalk.
Bontz, Thompson, and Jones were also part of the popular group Gene Vincentt & the Cadillac Cruisers throughout the ‘90s+.
Bontz later went on to join Cruise… Jones also later with The Esquires.
Amann also performed as half the Wize Gize duo with Wayne Penczek from 1999-2004. After Wize Gize ended Tim chose to stay with the concept of using technology to complement the sound of a smaller group. He re-formed Pet Rock in 2004, performing frequently as a duo with Jen Kuhlman (vocals, percussion) and adding Jimmy Bryant on percussion whenever possible. Jen left in 2005 and was replaced with Sally Bishop (vocals, guitar).
Pet Rock played many private functions and was a mainstay at several American Legions. They performed at many local events such as the summer concert series in Dundalk, Sykesville, Crofton, and Glen Burnie.
