Jarrett Lickle a.k.a. ‘Patches’ was originally from Towson, at an early age his family moved to Monkton, Maryland. He went on to star in many television children’s shows in Baltimore and Philadelphia. Locally he appeared on WBAL and WJZ-TV with his trademark patched clothing, buckskin hat and acoustic guitar.
His wife Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Lickle attended the Peabody Conservatory and performed with Jarrett on TV and in clubs as half the vocal / guitar folk duo Patches & Liz. They were seen in many area venues such as their own 15 Below, Lyric Theater, Briarwood Inn, as well as touring throughout the U.S. and Europe.

Recording engineer Joe Bradley taped many performances at 15 Below. In 1964 Bradley recorded Patches & Liz and released the single “Plaisir d’ Amour (Joy of Love)” b/w “Five Hundred Miles” (O’Dell 109).
After the demise of the Blue Dog and the Fog Horn coffee houses the 15 Below became the only professional folk music venue in the Baltimore area. Hosted by Patches & Liz, the 120-seat club hosted many stars of the folk circuit on Fridays and Saturdays with an open mic ‘Hootenanny night’ on Sundays.
Performers at the 15 Below included Donny Lease, Raun McKinnon, Michael Cooney, Bill Staines, Paul Siebel, John Denver, Don McLean, Jesse Colin Young, George Stevens, Gove Scrivenor, and many others. Emmylou Harris made her first professional performance at the 15 Below opening for a Norfolk based act of Doug McLeod and Beau Johnson (her then boyfriend).
Local folk acts often opened for featured artists. Guitarist Greg Kihn appeared at the club as Omar St. Groovey with his Snake Stompin’ Revue. Other notable regulars included Jim Allison & Terry Blake, Lewis & Dolgoff, Jonathan Pearthree, Carol Supp, Michael Tearson, Steve Askins…
In 1969 Patches & Liz produced “Limelight,” a folk music program on TV channel 11. Performers on the show included the Summit Singers, Walter Hensley & the Dukes (bluegrass), and others.

In the ‘00s Patches & Liz continued performing monthly engagements to packed houses at the New York Inn in Cockeysville…
