Formerly known as the Jim Weaver’s Pacesetters (see Jim Weaver Trio) featuring Weaver (piano), Charlie Stewart (tenor sax), and ‘Big Gus’ Cocoras (drums). Stewart was later replaced with Charlie Pace.
Saxophonist / guitarist Carl Rice was later added and the group became known as the 4 Pacesetters. They were seen in the ‘50s at the Coronet Club. As the Pacesetters the set the pace at Jazz City, the Surf Club. Later they were seen nightly at Irene’s Blue Room on Charles Street.
Billed as the New Pacesetters in June 1963.
Pace continued performing into the ‘70s seen at Cy Bloom’s Place in the Alley.
