The Nyte Raiders were a Northeast Baltimore band that played Top-40 (rock and soul) music at teen centers, CYO’s, and special functions around the Greater Baltimore area. During the late 60’s they were frequently seen at the Baltimore USO. Considered by some to be the “house” band at the USO, they were asked to travel on a Vietnam tour, but had to decline because some members were still in high school at the time.

Primary members were Ed Lurz (lead vocals), Bob Caperna (sax), Jeff Grant (trumpet), Danny Hart (lead guitar, vocals), John Douglass (rhythm guitar, vocals), Chuck Anderton (bass), and Dennis Witowski (drums, vocals). During the six years they performed, there were several other members: Charlie Curerri (lead vocals), Chip Velte (trumpet), Madeline Preston (vocals), and Jeannie Hansen (backing vocals).

The group also performed at UAW Hall, Belair Road Assembly Hall, Fort Meade Officer’s and NCO Clubs, UMBC, Goucher College, and teen centers including Johnnycake, Maiden Choice, and St. Joseph’s CYO… Managed by Mrs. Anderton.

They disbanded in 1971, but in 1978 Danny, Ed, and Dennis formed the crux of another band, After All.
