A Baltimore institution since the early ‘80s, the Motor Morons evolved out of (Judie’s) Oral Fixation originally as an acapella group. They became known for their own brand of “garage rock” using auto parts and shop tools as instruments. Led by Sam Fitzsimmons, the band maintained a continuously rotating line-up, which at times included Fred Collins (weed whacker, car parts…), Michelle Hanneburger (vocals, songwriter), Adrian Carciotis (drums), Monroe Hall (handmade electronics played by intentionally shorting them out), Jim Gormley (benchgrinder), Mike Bell (vocals, bass, benchgrinder), Mark Harp (guitar)

Motor Morons – “318”

It seems there hasn’t been a club or arts festival they haven’t performed. A short list includes the Ottobar, Galaxy Lounge, Metro Café, Sidebar, The Loft, Café Tattoo, HonFest, Artscape Festivals…

Motor Morons played the Virgin Fest at Pimlico in 2006 and 2007. They were the only local band to do so.

They were featured on the 1986 D.C. comp “The Savages Are Loose” (Mystic Records). Their song “Another Girl” was included on the 1989 “Merkin Seedy Sampler” album (Merkin 305).
