Benny attended Howard High School in the ‘60s while growing up in the town of Savage, Md. After playing in local teen bands, he eventually moved to New York to pursue a recording career. His initial success came as a writer. Teamed with Alan Miles, their first of many collaborations was the song “Too Heavy to Carry” recorded by Brenda Lee. Continuing his career in New York, then L.A. he released a single on White Whale Records “Stand and Be Counted” under the name Troy. Another co-writing credit for Mardones was the song “Shadows of The Night” which became a Top-20 hit for Pat Benatar in 1982.
His biggest solo success came in 1980 with the nationally charted hit “Into the Night” from the album “Never Run Never Hide” on Polydor Records.
