Surf / rock and roll band originated in Pikesville. Members Frank Marchant (lead vocals, piano), Burt Sweeney (lead guitar and leader), Carroll ‘Bunky’ Brown (drums), Henry ‘Chip’ Dubay (rhythm guitar), Mike Krebbs (bass guitar). Mike Gill (guitar, keyboards ex-Hypnotics) later joined the band. He went on to join Smoked Glass.

The Malibus performed many teen centers, CYO’s, and high school dances. Seen at the Mardi Gras on Harford Road, and were present the night federal agents shut down the club for good because of delinquent taxes.
They opened shows for many stars including The Dave Clark Five, Yardbirds, Hollies, Rascals, Gary Lewis, Lovin’ Spoonful, Cyrcle, Bobby Vinton, Platters, Danny Thomas, and others. Marchant recalled “watching these guys play from backstage and then “hanging out” was an incredible experience. All were very talented, but The Rascals blew just about everyone off stage. The Hollies harmony was so tight it was frightening. Some of the nicest people were the Platters, they always had a moment to spend giving advice, suggestions and compliments.”
Tom O’Neill recalled “When I was attending Milford Mill High School (before it was an academy), we had many classmates who were in R&R bands. I think The Patriots and The Malibu’s (Frank Marchant, Chip DuBay, Bunky Brown, Mike Krebs and Bert Sweeney) may have been the only ones at Milford who were members of the Musician’s Local. Chip DuBay (Malibu’s drummer) got the school hair policy changed after being suspended for it being over the collar, by having the Union Lawyers threaten to sue Baltimore County Schools.”
The Malibus split up in 1970 as most members went on to college. Marchant continued to be active in the local music scene performing with various rock and jazz bands and as a solo pianist (see bio). Sweeney traveled for a while with Marchant playing bass and arranging tunes. Bunky Brown and his wife Pattie (vocalist) played local clubs…
