Teen rock band from the “Pill Hill” area between Mount Washington and Pimlico Race Track. Member Jerry Nitzberg (drums) was once a ‘Committee’ member of the Buddy Deane Show around 1962-63. While a member of the Madhatters he also played simultaneously for another neighborhood band called the Offcetz Groop.
The Madhatters became known as the Connotation of 8 AM and featured British born lead vocalist Steve Marshall. Steve was known for always having the latest electronic gadgets and he incorporated fuzz tones, echo, wah-wah, etc. into their sound. He later devised an electronic sound modulator which was eventually developed and used by artists such as Stevie Wonder on his “Songs in The Key of Life” LP.
Nitzberg went on to join the Uncertain Things, Ames Oakes, Blackfoot Smoke, and Spring Fever. Marshall later fronted the band Lemon Lime.
