Rock band from Harford County led by Billie ‘D Kidd’ Senger (lead vocals, guitar, bass), and Joe Senger (drums, vocals).
Billie learned to play guitar in his early teens. During the mid-70s he was a member of the all-black funk/R&B band Pentagon. By the late ‘70s his brother Joe had learned to play the drums and the two formed the group LEAF.
In addition to Billie Senger (guitar) and Joe Senger (drums), LEAF had many bass guitarists throughout the band history including Byron Bowens, Keith Maith, Danny Huntley, Donte Allen, Larry Smith, Pete Moulden, and George Pulos.

Basically, a studio band that played mostly original music, the group also played a few clubs (It’s About Time in Fells Point), local festivals, parades and fairs.
To Billie “LEAF meant ‘Love Everyone Always & Forever,’ but to most everyone at the time they related it to getting high and smoking weed. Which I guess at the time was alright” according to Joe, “but it wasn’t the true meaning, but we let it slide.”
Their 1982 single A-side “Food Stamps” was a heavy funk/rock song by the Senger brothers along with Mike Tillman (harmonica), Ed Robinson (vocals), and Mike Bebber (vocals). The B-side “How Do I Know” a Black Sabbath style rocker was performed by Billie (vocals and all guitars), and Joe (drums). The record was recorded at White Trash Studios in Baltimore, mixed and mastered at Flite Three.
Leaf’s second record “Season’s Greetings from Leaf” – a 7” EP featuring the songs “Xmas Eve Night,” “Rumors,” “Sandman,” and “Christmas Time Again” (dedicated to John Lennon) was released in late 1983. The group added bass guitarist / vocalist Pete Moulden. Keith Maith also provided vocal backing.

Aside from performing music, Billie wrote articles for Maryland Musician magazine and worked at the Music Liberated store on Park Avenue and Saratoga Street. He passed away on April 18, 2006 of an apparent heart attack at his Clay Street apartment.

Joe’s post-LEAF record releases include the “Stranded Max” EP, and The Distractions CD in 2000, both featuring guitar work by brother Billie. Joe relocated to Florida in the ‘00s.
LEAF – superb Baltimore funk and rock band released a couple of 7″ records in early ’80s that are now highly sought after collector records.
The band also made some recordings in the early-mid-’90s. Throughout some very unfortunate circumstances the tapes were lost (long story explained on drummer Joe Senger’s website). In short, on a visit to True Vine Records in Hampden, store owner Ian showed Joe Vaccarino a recent acquisition of some LEAF records and tapes that someone had brought into the store. Joe V. contacted Joe S. and with help from Ian the tapes were reunited to Joe S.
Fast forward almost 20 years… the 30 year old tapes are out of storage and have been remastered and now available for the world to enjoy!
