Progressive studio recording group Klangfaarb, a German term meaning ‘tone color.’ Members of the group included Bob Tiefenwerth (keyboards), Paul Rieger (guitars, bass), Rick Schmuff (woodwinds), and John Erdman (drums, percussion).
They practiced the art of ‘musique concrete’, a technique of modifying and assembling various recorded sounds and tape loops into a sound collage. One of their original songs “Charnel Ochre” was included on the 1979 various artists compilation “The Best of Baltimore’s Buried” (Balto-Weird 1001). Their 1977 recording “L.S.E. (Bob’s Funky Tune)” was included on 2003 comp “The Best of Baltimore’s Buried Vol II.”
Tiefenwerth and Rieger later joined Leisure Suited Executives, and United States of Existence. Rieger also played in Food for Worms…
