Stand-up acoustic bassist. Moved to New York in the ‘20s and became a member of Fletcher Henderson’s Orchestra in the ‘30s. He later led his own New York based jazz/swing groups (late ‘30s–‘40s) which were heard on national radio broadcasts and included future jazz great Charlie Shavers (trumpet). Their song “Undecided” became a jazz classic.
