Brothers Mason Cutlip and Casey Cutlip from Pikesville formed The Kicksouls in the early-‘90s. The group became part of You Say When Records’ power pop roster alongside The Shadowmen and The Jennifers. The Brothers Cutlip shared guitar and vocal duties, while Paul Gier supplied bass and vocals, and Dayton Alford played drums. In 1993, Alford was replaced by Skizz Cyzyk.

The group frequented The Rev, Memory Lane, Club Midnight, the Mansion Theater, and Café Tattoo, plus the 15 Minutes Club, and 9:30 Club in DC. They toured the East Coast and Mid-West with Paul Collins (from The Beat).

Their song “Chickie” appeared on the 1995 international pop compilation “Pop Matters” (Wagon Wheel Records), and their song “Diplomat” appeared on You Say When’s 1997 comp “Listener Supported”.  Cyzyk (see bio) played in too many bands to list! Gier went on to play in Landspeedrecord!, The Octonauts, and The Heavycoats…
