Dual guitar and keyboard driven rock band whose members hailed from the Owings Mills and Lutherville areas. Lineup included David Gains (percussion), Paul Gorman (vocals, harmonica), Barry Kurlander (drums ex-Lucifer’s Mother, Used Parts), David Sellman (keyboards, vocals), Fred Smith (guitar, ex-Lucifer’s Mother, Used Parts), and Ron Turner and Clarke Utermohle on guitar and bass, both from Spectrum, Junction and Used Parts. It was Gain’s idea to name the band after Smith’s son, thinking it would be a cool name for the group.
The Justin Taylor Band performed at the Bethesda Cinema and Draft House, Goodtimes Inn, Full Moon Saloon, Max’s on Broadway, opened for Blackfoot at Steeltown, as well as many other Baltimore / D.C. venues.
Kurlander, Sellman, Smith, and Utermohle went on to form Checkered Past in 1999. Turner continued to play in Bondage Barbie & the Sleazy Bake Ovens, and Zack Nenon & the Classroom Dragons.
The real Justin Taylor took up the drums and in the ‘00s performed with an original music band called Lefthandout.
