Ellicott City band formed by classmates at Howard High School. Members consisted of Mike Porter (bass), Barry Swearman (drums), Danny Lough (guitar), Keith Roper (guitar), and Mike Lowery (B3 organ). Roper and Lowery were previously members of the band Broth. Porter was previously a guitarist for the Ellicott City teen band Inner Circle – he took up bass for the newly formed Island, as there were no other bass guitarists available at the time.

Island won a Mt. Hebron battle of the bands in 1972. With Marmic Productions as their agent, the band did quite well throughout the teen center and nightclub circuits.

Swearman and Roper went on to join Raven. Swearman, and Lowery later formed Taxie. Lough had a brief stint with Stoneberry Blue before rejoining Porter in the bands Penny Candy, and Sage.
