Folk guitarist Michael Hunt arrived in Baltimore in 1969 from the San Francisco Bay area. Combining his experience as a world traveler, ex-U.S. Navy seaman, and a participant in San Francisco’s ‘summer of love,’ Hunt quickly became a mainstay throughout the Baltimore coffeehouse scene including the Wine Cellar in Towson, Coffee Grounds, Crack of Dawn, Sanity Inn, Thunders Place, Godfrey’s, The Toad (Loyola College), Universal Joint, Crossroads, and a regular Thursday night stint at the Upstairs. He appeared on a double bill with Greg Kihn at the Park Plaza on New Years Eve 1969. Also seen at the Jewish Community Center on Park Heights Avenue, and at Milford Mill High School.
Hunt performed at Catonsville Sr. High on February 20, 1971 in a show with Will White, and Sandy Allan Dale. Also played at the Corpus Christi Church Benefit Concert on February 21, 1971 with Grin, Aubrey Circle, Howdy Duty, Aux, Bette White, 91, Will White, and Tim LeBrun.
Hunt’s brief local career was memorable due to his musical stream of consciousness and comedic style.
