Rock and roll oldies showband formed in 1974 as a ‘greaser’ revival group. Originally known as Harvey Hubcap and the Doo Ron Rons. They merged with the progressive rock group Half Moon becoming Harvey Hubcap and The Southern Maryland Band (T.S.M.B.) until shortening the name to The Hubcaps in 1978. Seen at the Club 602 (Laurel), Golden 40 Inn, Stardust Inn (Waldorf), Bojangles Too, Johnny Walkers, Cinema Lounge.

The Hubcaps 1977 line-up included Denny Cook (vocals), Coe Anderson (guitar ex-Critical Point), Billy Weir (guitar), Willie Farrell (bass), Jimi Simon aka ‘Rocky’ (keyboards), Mike Kirk aka ‘Spiderman’ Kirk (sax), Jeff Eckman (trumpet), and Ronnie Corea (drums).
In 1983 they released the album “Rock to The Beat” on T.S.M.B. Records. A single was released from the album featuring the title cut b/w “In My Life” (T.S.M.B. 2121). At that time the band consisted of Cook, Anderson, Farrell, Simon, with the addition of Barry Holober (drums ex-Cherry Smash, Band of A Thousand Names, Meretrix), and Kathie Farrell (sax, vocals).

Kathie later went on to form her own oldies revue called Kathie Martin & the Hot Rods. Barbara Riehl (ex-Pumphouse, Joy, Admirals) then joined as the new saxophonist / vocalist.

In 1993 guitarist / bassist Doug Lewis (ex-Peppermint Rainbow, Better Half) joined the group. Doug was also known for his imitation of Wolfman Jack. Riehl was later replaced with Mary McKenna (ex-Phoenix, The Wave). Kathie Martin returned to the group in 2006. Also joining in mid-‘00s were Jan Zukowski (bass ex-Cherry People, Nighthawks), Tom Dildy (keyboards ex-Carry On, 2nd Coming).

The Hubcaps continue as a popular attraction playing oldies revues, private affairs, bull roasts, and carnivals in the 2000s.

Barbie Riehl teaches voice and sax at Victor Litz Music in Gaithersburg.
