The ‘Fabulous Grabbers’ were a top 40 teen band whose members were mainly from the Morrell Park – Baltimore Highlands area. Managed by Ray Kight (Evie’s dad, the Grabbers wore uniforms that were made by Mrs. Kight.
They had many different members cycle through the group during the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. In June 1969 their line-up featured Bill Miller (lead guitar), Tony Dubil (rhythm guitar), Ken Massey (bass –later switching to guitar), Evelyn ‘Evie’ Kight (keyboards, vocals), and Ken Schroader (drums). Later additions to the group included vocalist Clyde Allen (ex-Tregwater), Al Crisp (bassist joined when Massey switched to guitar), and guitarist Scott Blackmon (from Rosedale area).
The Grabbers circa 1972

The Grabbers performed regularly as the opening group for the house band at the Club Vista on Mountain Road in Pasadena. The Club Vista house band’s keyboardist at the time was Evie’s teacher. The Grabbers were all under age at the time and the house band members would sneak them drinks. The group secured a gig as a house band at Caesar’s Cellar in Brooklyn, and at the Consul House on Annapolis Road.
The group performed at many bull roasts and weddings, and entertained patients at Veterans Hospital on Loch Raven Blvd.
In 1973 Massey, Crisp, Schroader, and Allen left the group and formed Walrus Bay.
