R&B group named after the street where most of the members grew up. The group was led by keyboardist James Burton, with Ed Griffin, Michael James, Matt Williams (keyboards), Daryl Griffin (drums ex-Potentials), and James Winslow (lead vocals, percussion). Originally known as Gay Street One, their name needed to be changed as to not conflict with the Gay Street community renewal initiative. Since the group had established their name and preferred not to change, they simply added a silent “e” to become Gaye Street One.

Gaye Street One performed locally at cabarets, Operation Champ neighborhood events, infield clubs, Fort Meade NCO Club, annually at the Baltimore County Policeman’s Ball’s, Lake Clifton Park, Martin’s Eastwind, Martin’s West… The group also traveled throughout the mid-Atlantic region to perform gigs in D.C., Philadelphia, and Maryland’s Eastern Shore…

In 1973 they performed on a local television program.

Winslow later worked with Pockets, T-Connection, Teddy Pendergrass, Jimmy Cliff, Peter Tosh, and others… Bishop Winslow later established the Power House Ministries… Griffin’s later groups included the Rollex Band…
