Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, ‘Smiley’ Wiley Daniels came to Baltimore with a Masters Degree in Radio and Television. He began his career as an announcer at WEBB, and later became Program Director for the station. Daniels also worked at WSID.

In the ‘70s Daniels joined WJZ-TV as one of Baltimore’s first African-American TV news anchors. He passed away in 1977 at the age of 48.
