R&B band formed at Towson State College started out playing Bill Doggett style R&B.

They could be seen performing at local teen centers and school dances. Members included lead vocalists Fran Ebersole, and John Spector – later replaced with Milton Dugger, Jr. The brass section consisted of Charlie Steinmetz (tenor sax), Ron Glatzel (trombone), and Ted David (alto sax). The rhythm section included John Baxter (keyboards), Gary D’Addario (guitar ex-Omegas), Stu Wertz (bass), Ray Ratajczek (bass ex-Naturals), and Lillywood Counts (drums). Brothers Steve Benderoth (guitar), and Mick Benderoth (drums) were also members…
D’Addario joined the Baltimore City Police Department in 1966 and retired from music. John Baxter went on to play for the Al Baitch Trio. Ted David’s later groups include Lurch…
It soon became apparent that the name Caravelle was copyrighted by the Boliva Watch Company. The group was forced to change their group name and their Caravelle record label, becoming The Chaumonts (see bio).
