The Dellonaires Orchestra appeared often as a prom dance band while also performing at local colleges, school dances, and clubs. They were seen at the Sunset Lounge. Their big band sound in the mid-’50s featured saxophonists Ron Esenwine, Doug Van Hagel, Brent Price, and Al Walker. Trumpets Bill Nyman, Bob Berry, and Nelson Heine. Trombones Lee Cutair, and Harry Walker. The rhythm section featured John Spicknall (piano), Bob Hudgins (bass), and Joe Pudzak (drums). Vocalist Mary Dickinson. Berry also played in the Ziggy Travers Trio.
The group released a mid-1950s 10” LP titled “Prom Favorites” on Recordings Incorporated 6000. A 1961 album showcased a concert at Johns Hopkins Shriver Hall.
The Dellonaires also performed as a trio with Spicknall (piano), Heine (bass), Steve Silverman (drums), with Mary Dickinson providing vocals.
Esenwine later played for the Men of Note, Carl Hamilton Orchestra, Sentimental Journey Orchestra… Drummer Bud Merkel also with Dellonaires, Men of Note…
