Rock & roll and soul band. Members included Barry Hart (guitar ex-Centurions), Steve Sackett (bass-later Majestics), Barney Mooney (bass), Richard Krebbs (B-3 organ), Danny Driscoll (organ), Jeff Rowe (vibes), and Mark Filling (drums). The horn section featured Don Rinaldo (alto sax), Jack Denny (tenor sax), Hal Hagy (tenor and baritone sax ex-Mello Men), Joe Conway (trumpet ex-Mello Men), Roy Rolig (trombone), Glen Mohr (trumpet and band leader), Bud Ramsey (trombone)… Lead vocalists included Nate Simms, and Ronnie Young. The group was managed by George Cooper and Jim Wesselhoff.

The Chevelles played teen centers including many shows hosted by WCAO radio personality Les Alexander. Seen at the Milford Mill Swim Club, Unity Hall, Essex Teen Center, Lancaster and Gettysburg Colleges. They performed at the Civic Center on April 30, 1966, Pier Ballroom in Ocean City, Keystone, Sea Gull, Rhapsody, and as a house band at Hollywood Park.

A 1969 Chevelles lineup included Terry Fortune (guitar), Joe Ercole (organ), Rick Piniecki (trumpet), Marlon Deacon (tenor sax ex-Tempests), Sam Smith (vocals)…

The band lasted until 1969 when they broke up and re-formed without horns. They were briefly known as Magic.

Hart was later with the Chosen Few. Conway’s later bands included Both Worlds, Admirals… Rolig left the band in 1968 joining the Sentries. Piniecki and Deacon were both later with Stoneberry Blue, Deacon, Gazze… Sackett with Denny & Hitchhikers…

From Barry Hart …

We were a “Motown” and “Top 40” show band performing at Hollywood Park, The Keystone, The Sea Gull Inn, The Rapsody, The Famous Ballroom, Gussies Downbeat, The Latin Casino, the battle of the bands at the Civic Center, Colleges in Gettysburg & Lancaster PA, not many bands in those days. We purchased all our outfits at Tru-fit and our equipment from Yeagers all located in Highlandtown.
