Burried Droog mixed elements of hardcore-thrash-punk-rock with garage, psychedelic, and experimental rock, and, along with Grey March, Reptile House, and Fear of God, quickly became a main fixture in Baltimore’s early-80s all-ages underground music scene.
Kevin Johnson (guitar) and Skizz Cyzyk (vocals, drums, keyboards) formed the band in 1983. Original bassist Scott Smith relocated to Detroit in 1984, and was replaced by Joey Cirri. Cyzyk and Cirri had previously played together in Trud. In 1985 Joey left to join Reptile House, and was replaced by Michelle Fayer, who left in 1986 and was replaced by Jim Weiprecht. Weiprecht and Cyzyk had previously played together in The Sage.
Burried Droog frequently played all-ages venues such as Jule’s Loft, later known as (The New Loft, then Eutaw St. Clubhouse), Toad’s Basement, Oddfellows Hall, Polish National Alliance Hall and local colleges, with occasional shows at bars like Trenton St. Stop, and the Marble Bar.
Their song “Burried Droog” appeared on the 1986 “Evenings & Weekends” compilation from Mark Renner’s Gate International label, and their song “Positive” was re-recorded for the 1987 Squashed Ants compilation.
In 1988, Johnson was briefly replaced by Reptile House’s Asa Osbourne, but when Osborne left to join Lungfish, Cyzyk disbanded the group to join Berserk. Cirri went on to play in Reptile House, The Ultra Violets, and Vulgaria. Weiprecht went on to play in Hipprocates Rainbow. Cyzyk has gone on to play with numerous other acts (see Cyzyk, Skizz).
