Founded in 1975 and continuing into the ‘00s, the nonprofit organization dedicates itself to the preservation and promotion of folk music and traditions. Members of the society attend events that feature a variety of music including country, bluegrass, Cajun, zydeco, etc.
The society was co-founded (at least in part) by guitarists/vocalists Bruce Grams and Michael Quitt. Grams ran the Crack of Doom coffee house in the 1960s.
Linda Baer chaired the Folk Society when they would meet in Mount Vernon Methodist Church across from Peabody.
