Rock group founded by drummer Tom Smith, bass player Fred Tarr (ex-Heavy Water), and singer Bunky Meluh in 1971. The band, evolved from Maypole, was booked through the Unlimited Limited agency headed by John Councilman and disc jockey Dave King. Later members of Sass included Todd Dixon (bass), Neil Bullock (guitar), Perry Cooper (keys), and Warren Cherry (vocals ex-Dew Dwarf). Later vocals were done by Larry Chenoweth (ex-Flying Circus, Ivory Lizard), and Kenny Krause played guitar.

Sass performed at the Latin Casino, Keystone, Rhapsody, Hollywood Palace, Seagull Inn, Partners (Brooklyn), and high school dances. The band opened up for Nils Lofgren & Grin at Loch Raven High School in 1974.

Tarr’s later credits include doing sound for Wrathchild America… Smith’s later efforts included Rolz Royce. Tarr and Smith collaborated in ‘80s band Digital Warriors… Bullock later with Threshold, Meadow… Dixon later with Delightful, Tiffany… Cooper later with Pzazz…
