Originally from Scotland, Bryne’s family moved to Canada, and then Baltimore around 1960. Dave attended Lansdowne High School in the late ‘60s and played in some local garage bands including Revelation, Gut, and other pick-up rock bands along with classmate Bob Flurie. Upon completion of high school David relocated to New England where he attended the Rhode Island School of Design where he met artists/musicians who would later become part of the band Talking Heads.
Byrne returned to Baltimore for a time in the early ‘70s and attended the Maryland Institute College of Art. During this time, he was part of an avant-garde musical combo named Bizadi featuring Bryne (vocals, violin, ukulele), and Marc Kehoe (vocals, accordion). The duo performed at the art school and local theaters circa 1971-72, after which they moved to San Francisco. Kehoe went on to become a movie producer, and Byrne went back to Rhode Island. He reunited with former classmates Chris Frantz and Rita Weymouth and they eventually formed Talking Heads.
