Rock / R&B band Layers was formed in the late ‘70s. Early members included Toby Walker (vocals), Stewart Walden (guitar), Preston Wood (bass), Dave Gorozdoz (keys), Hal Squires (drums). In the mid-’80s Wood was replaced on bass with Bill Cahill, and Squires was replaced on drums with Clyde Johnson. Later changes in band personnel include Spencer Leckliter taking over on bass, and Bruce Scarborough on drums.
The group played the local club scene throughout the Frederick and Baltimore areas including Brass Rail, Sneakers, The Loft, A.L. Gators, Eagle’s Nest, Island Inn (Stevensville), E. J. Bugs, Donnelly’s (Frederick), Delaney Inn, Hunan House (Severna Park), and became a popular draw at Ocean City clubs including the Purple Moose and the Green Turtle. They released a mid-’80s single on the Lay-Who? label “Deliverance” b/w “Jimmy the Doctor.”
