Jazz group featuring the Grainger brothers Gary (bass), Greg (drums), and Glenn (keyboards). The Grainger’s became some of the most well-known and sought after musicians in the Baltimore/D.C. area and abroad. The brothers had formerly been members of Columbia recording group Pockets.

Gary Grainger – WPG Trio

Gary Grainger played in regional bands before joining Luther Ingram’s band. He later formed Inner Visions that later became known as Pockets. After Pockets folded, he worked with Deodato (recorded on albums “Night Cruiser” and “Happy Hour”, joined jazz guitarist John Scofield’s band in 1986 and appears on the albums “Blue Matter,” “Loud Jazz,” and “Pick-Hit Live.” Gary has toured worldwide and recorded with Dennis Chambers, Ken Navarro, Less Traveled, Acoustic Alchemy… As a studio musician he worked with many greats including the Softones, Debbie Jacobs, Blue Magic, Jackie Moore, Verdine White, O’Donel Levy, Joe Ercole, Jimmy Wilson, Dan Reynolds, Carl Filipiak, and others. Gary and Paul Reed Smith designed Gary’s own line of PRS bass guitars.

Greg Grainger was awarded a scholarship to Peabody. He was also a member of Pockets, and later went on to join Whitney Houston’s backing band, touring and performing at the Grammy Awards. He later toured with jazz keyboard great Lonnie Liston Smith, Grammy winning gospel artist Richard Smallwood, and the jazz group Acoustic Alchemy.

Glenn Grainger Music Director / Musician, played keyboards for Pockets, and recorded with Wax (RCA), Jackie Moore (Columbia), The Tones, Jurassic 5, Dream Warriors…

The Graingers established their own Hillview Studios and their record label GBM in the 1990s where they produced their own original music and other local artists.

Their album “Phase 1” won WAMMIE Award in 1997. Their song “Shine Your Light” from Phase 1 was released as a 45rpm 7” single and as a 12” single and the song charted nationally.
